• when my mom comes to visit me

The past 6 days with Rickey were amazing.

I miss having him home all of the time SO much... Lilly does too, really bad. He left for Mexico yesterday morning. Boarded the first plane in Louisville & then changed planes in Texas. Somehow when he got off the plane in Mexico, he lost his iPhone which made him extremely sad but I figure... he'll live.

It's funny, you know, a country boy going to a different place such as Mexico. It's so funny to hear his thoughts after a day. He's also realizing that changing to a completely different food for every.single.meal will make you have tummy troubles. ha

~ I had to get glasses.

But my pretty.messy.flower makes it alright!

~ We got snowed in for the weekend. Fun for like the first day...

~ Learned a lesson to never go look at trucks with males. Worst idea EVER. Turns into an all day affair.

but we were able to spend LOTS of quality time together but that LOTS still wasn't enough.

I miss him tremendously and want him back.home.NOW.

Lilly does too...

She LOVES jumping up on the clothes fresh out of the dryer and quickly falling asleep so I can't fold them.

In other news, I received my first ever wholesale order and even better than that... from AUSTRALIA. How awesome! Which meant LOTS and LOTS of fabric FUN.

So that's been keeping me busy and somewhat kept my mind off of being sad that he's gone.

In a couple hours my amazing man will be home from Michigan after being gone for around 3 weeks - a month.

I'm so excited... Lilly is too, she just doesn't know it yet. She LOVES when he comes home, I need to take a video of it, it's hilarious!

I've been working on this today... haven't put it in the shop because I'm not happy with how it came out. It's so not fun being so picky. It has little hand tied thread on it.

We're supposed to get lots of snow and maybe freezing rain this weekend, I'm so not excited about that. However, I am excited about being stuck in the house and getting to sew while having a puppysitter, ha!

That means crazy running errands tomorrow though, which means getting my butt to the eye doctor. I've been getting headaches pretty bad lately and feeling like I'm going cross-eyed.

primitive swag tutorial

First off, go here and buy some of these. You need some primitive hooks to hang your swag on, duh! Well worth the $7.99 for the pair. I bought 2 pair because I have 2 windows I wanted swagged... yeah, I just typed swagged.

This is SEW easy!

You'll Need:
• homespun fabric - I covered 2 kitchen windows (one over the sink, the other a normal size) so I bought 7 yards of fabric on a whim, surprisingly I got just enough. Measure your windows, buy your fabric, allow yourself enough room for swag to swoop down in the middle.
• coordinating thread (something that will blend in)
• sewing machine
• scissors

I made sure I left the 7 yards all one piece. I started with one window and draped the fabric the way I wanted it to lay. I then cut the excess off. One straight cut. The remaining fabric is to cover the other window.

This is the ugly window before.

Now, you'll need to fold your edges under about 1/2 an inch and iron.

Load your machine up with your coordinating thread and sew with a 1/4 inch allowance. Keep it straight and make sure you backstitch at the beginning. Right now you're just going down one side. When you get to the end backstitch there too and clip your thread.

Next side. Fold it under all nice and neat so you have a pretty corner. Follow the same as above.

Repeat the steps for each side.

When you're finished you'll have a pretty rectangle.

Now drape it over your hooks and admire your work. Easy peasy, just the way I like it!

Still at my mom's. It's so insanely nice to get out of the house every now and then. I love being at home but it gets old being there alone day after day.

However, away from my house and all I can think about is sewing. Different projects, ideas, to dos running through my head NON.STOP. Then I get home and it seems as if other things catch my attention and the constant ideas slip my mind and sit on the back burner or are forgotten.

I need a book.
An idea book.
A book to write down all of these away-from-home constant ideas. So then I can prioritize everything and GET.IT.DONE with no excuse.

A lot has been going on over this way.

My little 13 year old brother was saved tonight. He's getting baptized Wednesday night and I'm going with my mom. I'm so insanely proud of him.

He's inspired me to set a goal for myself to kick my potty mouth out the door.

Sales have been amazing here lately. I know it's partly because the new year but it's also because I've been doing some crazy renewing and advertising. I love my clients! I'm still donating $5 from every lovey & $10 from every quilt sold to Compassion International to help Haiti. I've raised $30 so far and my goal is $50.

Pretty insane that it's pouring down rain and storming in JANUARY.

Lilly and I are heading to my mom's tomorrow for a much needed socialization and time away from my lovely home.

covered letter tutorial

We can't paint where we live because we rent.
I'm all about color though so I can't stand it.

I decided to cover some letters in bright scrapbook papers and slap them on the wall.

What You'll Need:
• wooden letters (got mine at Hobby Lobby)
• bright, funky scrapbook paper (big enough so your letters can lay on it)
• mod podge
• bowl and brush (I forgot a brush so I just used a paint brush I had) for applying Mod Podge

1. Pick out which papers you want to use then lay them so the print side is facing down and white side is facing upward. Lay your first letter on the paper (make sure the right side of the letter is facing down too) and trace it. Do this for all of your letters but use a different paper for each letter!

2. Have a seat in front of the TV and cut out your letters.

3. Pour some Mod Podge out and start painting it onto the front of your letter, make sure the whole side is coated.

4. Carefully lay your cut out paper on top of the letter and gently go around the edges and press it down to make sure it all adheres. Set aside to dry. Do this for each letter.

5. Not sure how long it takes them to dry. I did 2 letters at a time then would come back after doing other things and they would be dry. I'm sure it tells on the back of the Mod Podge.

6. Hang them all funky-like on your wall and stare in admiration at how cute they are!

Don't stare in disgust at how hideous my ironing board cover is though. I desperately need to visit these ladies.

I have been SO busy.

I was contacted a few weeks ago about a consignment here in good ole Kentucky.
These 2 sisters were opening up their own shop in Winchester, KY and were only going to carry handmade items.

They wanted to know if I'd be interested in consigning.
Are you kidding me?! DUH!

So I shipped quite a few goodies off and it pretty much depleted my shop.
A good depletion though.

I have been spending the past bajillion days sewing up a storm
so I can have stuff for sale in my shop.

I finished this morning with what I had started and had to quit so I don't get burnt out.

However, tomorrow is the grand opening of their shop.
So, if you're ever in Winchester, KY... stop in at the Dreaming Tree Studio and support handmade artisans... like me. :)

Good grief...

I'm in heaven out here at our new place in the country
we're still renting but it's 100 times better than our psycho apartment life

I have so much room to fill with crafty and fabric goodness

Electricity RANT

The boy and I went on our merry little way yesterday to the electric company.

We had to have the electric turned on at our new place so I can go clean it.

Paid a deposit of $355 and went on our way.
Yes, $355 JUST for a deposit.

Needless to say, I felt so broke I didn't even want to go buy tooty paper.

Sad thing is, we've had the electric company before (7 months ago) and only paid a $170 deposit then. When we moved we paid everything off. Highest electric bill we have had was $106.

What made me even more sick to my stomach was how the lady acted like it was nothing.

What is up with it?!

Yorkies, Yorkies Everywhere

Oh my goodness, I am so excited.
I entered the YorkieTalk Gift Exchange and got my secret buddy today!
The last one I was in (last year this time) was oh so much fun.
These days there are so many cute things to pamper pups with...

I almost think I get about as much enjoyment shopping for furbabies as I do shopping for new fabrics.

Can't believe I just typed that... haha!

So I've been browsing Etsy along with other handmade websites looking for those perfect, cute little gifts for our special secret buddy.

Last year I didn't know about Etsy but now I do and I'm oh so happy that I do.

It's going to be a blast.

I'll share pictures whenever Lillybug gets her box and of course share pictures whenever our buddy gets theirs!

I have come to the realization that Yorkies love attention more than anything.
Lilly gets asked daily, by me, "WHAT DO YOU WANT!"

I can't sew, watch TV, fold laundry - NOTHING! Without having 2 little black eyes staring straight at me.

Ignoring doesn't work. She'll just start making noises or bark at me.

It's worse when my lovely bf is gone traveling for work. Guess where he is right now? Gone.

So... I strap on my patience and try to sew, watch TV and fold laundry while having these 2 little black eyes staring straight at me.

I've come to the realization that I wouldn't want it any other way so I just deal and take several breaks to toss a toy or two.

Love her.

There's Always A Few Bumps in the Road

Things have been pretty crazy here lately. I had to go to Scottsville and stay with my mom for 2 weeks because all sorts of crazy police involved drama happened at my apartment 2 nights before Rickey had to leave for PA.

I was too scared and too much of a chicken to tough it out by myself with Lilly.

I enjoyed being at my mom's and being the majority of drama free.

Came home to a nice, quiet apartment with the disturbing neighbors gone for good.

I've been sewing and spitting out new things just as fast as I can. Trying to keep up with the pick up of sales I've had since I was featured on Etsy's front page.

Lilly keeps my nerves somewhat calm and me somewhat sane no matter how crazy things can get. I'm so thankful and believe undoubtedly that God brought me to her and her to me for that reason. I don't know what I would do without her.

She is the love of my life.

It's Raining, It's Pouring...

Even though sales get slow, it doesn't stop me, I just keep sewing and keep buying beautiful fabrics! I love seeing new fabrics come out, I'm like a kid in a candy store. I've been working on a new style of a bag too and a few other things. Exciting, exciting!

Last night we came down to my mom's to stay since we've been having horrible problems with our neighbors. Rickey left this morning for Pennsylvania and I miss him tons!
It rained and rained last night, it finally stopped and we were shooting off fireworks at 11. Lillybug hated it, she didn't know what was going on.

I made this cute little number for Lilly... well, half made it. I bought a little newborn dress in the clearance baby clothes at Wal-mart for $3. Cut and sewed a little on it, took about 5 minutes and bam! She's such a dollbaby. (Don't pay attention to her huge toy mess behind her, I can pick them up and 2 seconds later she's whining wanting them back out.)

Things aren't going the way we would like or expected with the house. We're getting the runaround and I hate it more than anything. Why can't people just be honest and upfront? It's not right getting a poor girl's hopes up only to leave her hanging. I'm (im)patiently waiting for a sign, a sign that will show us what we should do - whether we should jump in and do work to this house and just rent it or... just let it go. What happens if we choose wrong?

Sales are still insanely slow... so slow that they aren't even there. A couple months ago I was wondering if I could keep up, calling my grandma to see if she could help if I needed it. Now? I have a pile of bags and a pile of wristlets waiting for their forever home. I'm trying my hardest to keep pushing and keep telling myself that it's just the economy.

It's all alright though, I have faith that everything will work itself out... it always does, right?

Plus, this little angel makes it all alright and makes me just step back and breathe...

Patience, Sewing and Sales!

I have been on pins and needles this past week. I tend to get my hopes up way too high and always get let down. I'm trying my hardest to just hand it all over and just let it go how it's going to go but it's HARD.

I'm still (im)patiently waiting on word back about the house we've been looking at.

There's days like today when I have to listen to my neighbors and I'm just ready to up and move, no matter what.

Besides worrying myself crazy, I have been super busy sewing! Things have been so slow but I reckon if I just keep at it, I'll either have the items for my first craft show one day (I hope!) or I'll never have to buy a new bag ever again.

I've marked several wristlets down in my shop within the past couple of days. I revamped them just a teensy bit and decided to sell out of my previous ones so I can have more room for new ones. Check it out, it's a bit more than 20% off!

Hopin' and Prayin' for Tomorrow

Well, I think we have finally found a house! Hopefully!

It's a rent to own and needs quite a bit of work (it blows my mind how disgusting some people can live) but we're tired of this apartment living so we're going for it. I'm incredibly nervous, tomorrow we're meeting with the owner and walking through the house and discussing things with him. I'm hopin' and prayin' that everything works out how we would like it to. It would be a HUGE blessing.

Now this...

This is the damage an 8 lb dog does to a cat toy. You should have seen her little furry butt flying upstairs with this thing in her mouth, she always does this when she knows she's doing something she isn't supposed to.

The past few days I've been sewing up a storm. Working on new, gahgeous bags and wristlets for the summer! I also got the .com for my shop name... exciting for me but everyone else could probably care less, that's alright though! :)

More items are listed in my shop! I've also marked a couple things down.

I ordered a fabric covered button maker and oh my goodness! So much better than using the same 'ole plastic buttons that cost an arm and a leg. I sat upstairs in my sewing room yesterday making fabric buttons, I'm amused easily though.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I just hope we stay clear of these severe storms we've been having all week.

Why is it so hard to get a house! I'm over living in an apartment where I can hear things I don't want to hear. I'm ready for a house out in the country where it's peaceful and beautiful. I pray!

I'm always trying to find random things on Etsy that I can buy, I love supporting other sellers.

I was tickled pink whenever I ran across PaperFish. I found THE CUTEST little button pin, it didn't take me long to decide that I just HAD to have it for my newest purse I was making myself.

"I made it myself", if that isn't awesome enough in itself to have a pin that says that, it's decked out in polka dots and buttons - right up my alley!

A purse made out of gorgeous fabrics that they should NEVER stop selling and a beautiful handmade pin. Life and eye candy just doesn't get any better than that... at least for me!

Lilly had an appointment at the beauty shop on Wednesday. I think she knows she looks good...

She's the sweetest little thing, EVER! I love her so much and she inspires me so much.

I've been in a poo mood since around 3 this afternoon when I decided I wanted to make a quilt with some fabrics I've had forever. Problem? No black flannel. Sure, if I lived in the big 'ole town of Bowling Green or wherever else, I could have just hopped in my car and went and got some. Thing is, there are 2 fabric shops here and neither of them carry flannel, one store supposedly had light pink flannel but it was almost $5 a yard, that's nuts. She tried convincing me that I could just use felt?! I didn't need felt!!! I think I know what I need to make what I want to make. Right?

I was disappointed for 2.5 seconds until I received an e-mail from Hancock Fabrics about their huge sale they're having tomorrow. So now, we're getting up bright and early to make it there so that the one main thing I want isn't gone, is it flannel? No. I now realize I have an attention span the size of a 2 year old. Will I get the previously mentioned black flannel though? Duh!

Me having an attention span the size of a 2 year old becomes a problem when I constantly start projects and don't finish them. Stopping a project results in a new project which then results in an excuse for me to buy new fabric - yum! feeding my fabric addiction. My dear boyfriend doesn't say yum!, he says yuck! while my fabric addiction is depleting his wallet of mucho $.

The time will come either tomorrow during the day or first thing Monday morning, I'm still debating on the perfect item to giveaway! :)

That's right! I'm working on several items with new gorgeous fabrics and after I get it all made up, I'm doing my first give-a-way! I've been working pretty hard the past few days and still have more to do. It won't be long though! Shop Is Back Open!

I opened the Etsy shop back up this morning. I already have several orders. I'm still at my mom's house, I was going to go home today but the weather is supposed to be bad. I went home and got a few supplies and my machine and brought it back here, then realized I forgot one of my important tools - my rotary cutter!

We're going to Hancock Fabrics in the morning to get some blades and a trolley for my machine! I also have to get some new jeans, I ripped a pair of mine a couple weeks ago :(!

Shop Closed Until Further Notice

Etsy shop has been closed since April 30th 12AM (Thursday) after my free shipping promotion ended. I have been down here at my mom's in Scottsville, KY, helping her out with my grandmother. She had a pace maker put in on Friday and came home on Sunday. We're not sure if she's having complications or not but she has been incredibly dizzy and nauseous since her surgery. They tried to get her to stay at the hospital on Sunday but she just wasn't having it (she's very hard headed) so she ended up coming home. I wish she'd start feeling better so she can recoup herself from her surgery and get used to her pacemaker.

Shop will re-open as soon as everything is better with her and I can make it home. I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

Say NO to Puppy Mills!

I'm patiently sitting here waiting on Rickey to get home from Indiana. My eyes are so heavy they feel like they're touching the floor. Lilly is out, stretched out as much as her small body can stretch and snoring louder than the TV. I slowly drifted off to sleep earlier today with needle, thread and ribbon in my hand during the process of making a bow. Told you I'm beat.

Last night, we watched Puppy Mills: Exposed on The Animal Planet, talk about heart wrenching. People disgust me. What disgusts me even more is the higher authorities who are taking forever to crack down on these mills and, in my eyes, are not putting enough information out. I wish I could save every little pup in the world and give them a lap to sit on and a bed to sleep in at night. Heck, we've already bought 1 king size bed for a small 8 lb Yorkie, what would a few more king size beds hurt?! :)

Please, if you are getting a new family pet for the first time or if you know someone who is... RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. DON'T buy from pet stores, don't even buy material items from pet stores that sell pups. DON'T buy from the internet, how are you going to know where the pup is really coming from? SEE the living conditions for yourself, if you wouldn't live in it, WALK THE OTHER WAY.

If we would all just join together, we could eventually put an end to all this madness!

Ready, Set, Sew

I haven't updated my blog in what seems like ages. I have been super busy with sewing though. I've made quite a few dog beds and purses and had other random orders besides those.

Love the sewing and the orders but love my relaxing time too, ha!

I've re-done my sewing room quite a bit over the last month or so. I still have several things I'm wanting to do to it but haven't had the time. I've been looking for cute sewing sayings so I can decorate some wooden letters and hang on the wall with ribbon. I'm doing it all bright and funky colored, love those colors. When I still lived with my mom, my room was a beautiful hot pink shade and I loved it and never really grew tired of it. One day in the future, I'll have a hot pink room again and it will most likely be my sewing room. So exciting!

MaryAnna over at Whimsy Papers on Etsy made me a new banner and avatar for my shop. She also made me some other goodies that I absolutely adore!

I also got my tax number and information in the mail and am so excited to be an actual business now! :-P Now, I just need to sew, sew, sew for some craft shows! When I start doing those, it will make my life! Can't wait.

Spring Brings Bright Ragged Out Colors!

Quite a bit has been going on in the world of Rags & Ribbons! I've been on a mission since last Thursday making a huge dog bed (42" x 42")... I can proudly say, I'm finished! It's in UPS' hands now on it's way to it's destination! I think it's officially the hardest item I have ever made! The buyer was such a great person to work with though so it made it worth while!

Spring is here and summer will soon follow so I thought, "what better way to bring in the new season than with a new bright, colorful bag?" Which leads me also to a few things I decided to try and make while I was busy with the machine (not pictured: change purse). Sewing is such an addiction, nothing feels better than coming up with something new on your own.

Love those wristlets! So cute and fun for summer. It will be great on those nights out when I don't feel like dragging my bag around, haha.

Boots with the Fur!

Weight Watchers went GREAT on Tuesday! I lost 4 lbs! I was shocked and happy whenever the lady who weighed me in said it! It's been hard while I'm here at my mom's... especially when she cooks, I love her good cooking! She fixed baked chicken with chicken broth, garlic and mushrooms tonight. She also fixed cabbage and broccoli and it was so yummy!

After we got out of Weight Watchers on Tuesday, we did a little shopping. I didn't want to get a lot because I want to wait 'til I lose weight and can shop for smaller clothes but I had to have some shirts. I wanted some fabric to make myself a new purse but I'm too picky and couldn't find anything I liked.

It snowed and sleeted here today. I can't believe a few days ago it was in the 70's and sun shining as bright as can be and today it was sleeting like crazy. No wonder everyone can't keep from getting sick... I just pray I don't get the flu again, yuck!

We had fun staying in the house taping Lilly in her booties... here she is at home with them on.

That's all though... tomorrow Mom & I are going to check out a primitive store here in Scottsville. Hope everyone out there is having a great week!!!

Weight Watchers, Purses & Doggy Love!

Well, Rickey left for Florida today for a job :-(! I miss him tons already and so does Lilly. I'm at my mom's in Scottsville, I like coming down here when he's out of town. We took my grandma to the doctor in Bowling Green and did a little running then came back home. I'm wore out. I've been taking Lilly outside to potty rather than having her use her pee pads while we've been here.

Rickey & I took her to the park on Saturday when it was really nice out. She loved it!

I sold a purse over the weekend and sent it out today. I included a cute little "change purse" with it as a free gift, it was actually bigger than a change purse though.

I've also started making dog bows and I made Lilly some pajamas.

Last Tuesday, Rickey & I went to our first Weight Watchers meeting with my mom. Last week was our first week on it. It's been fairly rough but I'm pretty set on sticking with it and losing some weight. I've always been heavier and I would love to lose weight and be healthy. It would be really nice to go shopping and not have to shop in the plus size clothing. We go to our next meeting tomorrow, it's just Mom & I going. Hope I've lost a little!

Daddy's Girl

Rickey is on his way home from Indiana. I'm so excited and ready to spend all the time that I can with him. I think Lilly knows because she has been periodically going to the front door, sniffing, laying down then coming back up on the couch. Bless her heart, she loves her daddy so much!

Haven't done much crafting the past few days but I'm definitely having withdrawals. My fabric has been calling my name, I'm waiting for a whim of something different to make. I have a creative mind, I just have a problem with putting it to actual work.

Nothin' better than some good 'ole rags & ribbons.

It's wonderful how great I feel after I make something. Makes me feel accomplished. As soon as I put it on the bed to take pictures, she jumped up on the bed and laid down on it, that really warmed my heart. Love my punkin'!
